A cracked housing or a mirror that no longer folds is a daily annoyance and, on most vehicles, an inspection failure. Year, make, and model are the starting point, not the whole answer. Three details decide it. First, the connector: a 2015-2020 F-150 mirror, for example, fits trucks with the 8-pin connector and will not work with the 22-pin harness, so count the pins on your existing plug before ordering. Second, cameras: mirrors with an integrated factory camera are a different part and these replacements do not fit them. Third, trim and platform exclusions, such as a Silverado 1500 mirror that does not fit 2500HD, 3500HD, GMC Sierra, or right-hand-drive vehicles.

Most are sold as a single mirror, specified as driver side or passenger side in the product title, which is what you want when replacing one damaged unit. Some applications are offered as a pair. Check the title before ordering, since driver and passenger mirrors are not interchangeable and often differ in features as well as shape.

Fitting a mirror with blind spot detection to a truck that never had the system will not add the feature. Match the mirror's feature set to what your truck came with.

The turn signal is the amber repeater on the outer edge of the housing, visible to traffic alongside you. The puddle light points down from the underside of the mirror and illuminates the ground next to the door when you unlock or open it. A DRL is a daytime running light that stays on with the vehicle. Some mirrors carry all three, and the product title lists which are included.

The mechanical part is straightforward on most vehicles: remove the interior door panel trim to reach the mounting nuts, unplug the harness connector, and fit the new mirror with the supplied hardware. The complications are that installation instructions are not always included, and that a wrong connector or an unsupported feature is only discovered once the door is apart. Professional installation is recommended, and confirming pin count and feature set beforehand matters more than the wrenching.
